APP NOTE
OVERVIEW
The new IPORT CONNECT and CONNECT PRO platform can utilize the technology and benefits of PoE+ and Hardwired Data to the iPad. To take full advantage of the Connect platform, below are a few recommendations for PoE+ and iPad configuration settings.
White Listing MAC Addresses
Depending on the manufacturing process and when the PoE+ Network Adapters are assigned a MAC address, there may be a difference in MAC address prefixes. We advise white listing both prefixes for a trouble-free installation of the PoE+ Network Adapters.

PoE+ Switch Settings
While testing and deploying PoE+ Adapters and PoE+ Network adapters, we confirmed that most PoE+ IEEE 802.3at Network Switches can power iPads and CONNECT PRO systems when the guidelines are followed.
- 20W Port Setting. Correctly set each port on the PoE+ Switch with a CONNECT PRO PoE+ Adapter or PoE+ Network Adapter connected with a minimum of 20W per port. If this is impossible through the Switch settings, consult the PoE+ manufacturer for assistance or use a PoE+ Injector from IPORT (p/n 72016).
- Power Budget. Each installation and deployment of CONNECT PRO products are different and unique, as well as the network configuration. It is essential to ensure the chosen PoE+ Network Switch has enough power budget for the project it is used on to support the connected devices. It is Imperative that the ports powering the CONNECT PoE+ Adapter or PoE+ Network Adapter does not go below the necessary 20W per port in the event the PoE+ Switch is lowering power throughout the switch to conserve the power budget. If this is happening and you cannot fix the output of the PoE+ port, we would suggest using a dedicated PoE+ Injector from the IPORT (p/n 72016) line with each IPORT CONNECT Product.
iPad Settings for Optimal Charging Speeds.
Each iPad on the market is slightly different in its battery capacity; thus, their charging speeds and total time to charge vary by model. Throughout testing, though, we have identified a few iPad settings for optimal charging speeds. We have identified that the iPad's default settings are out of the box and are ideal for the most reliable and fastest charging. If the default settings have been changed, verify the best iPad charging results below.
- Verify Auto-Brightness feature is “ON”
-
-
-
-
- Go to ”Setting” > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Verify the Auto-Brightness is “ON”
-
-
-
- Brightness Level (factory default approximate at 50%)
-
-
-
-
- Go to ”Setting” > Display & Brightness and set Brightness 50% or less.
-
-
-
- Auto Lock, when possible, dims the screen, consuming less power and producing less heat for the iPad.
-
-
-
-
- Go to ”Setting” > Display & Brightness > Auto Lock and select the desired auto-lock timer; note when using the iPad, the auto-lock will not engage until the iPad is idle.

-
NOTE:
- It is usual for the iPad to slow its charging after 80%. This is built into the iPad iOS to help preserve the health and performance of the Lithium-ion batteries.
- If an iPad has shut down due to an extremely low battery, it may take up to 10-15 minutes for a charger to power back on; this is a normal function of the iPad and not a symptom of the CONNECT PRO System.
